Do This for Breakfast and Worry Less About What You Eat the Rest of the Day

I’m a huge fan of nutrient- and superfood-packed smoothies every day for breakfast. I often recommend that clients switch out their usual breakfast for a green smoothie. In fact, this is the first thing I’m recommending my Summer Detox/Retox participants. Here are three reasons why you should standardize your breakfast, plus a recipe for a berry and mint smoothie that I’m loving.

1. Saves time. The majority of us don’t eat breakfast. And those who do, reportedly wolf it down due to time constraints. A smoothie can be whirled up in seconds and enjoyed anytime and anywhere: while you’re getting ready, on the streetcar, in the car or at your desk.

2. Good baseline. A healthy smoothie gives you several servings of fruits and veggies. Because, let’s face it. Most of us aren’t getting enough fruits and veggies each day, especially those leafy green veggies. A basic green smoothie can provide you with up to five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, taking some of the pressure off eating like a rockstar for the rest of the day.

3. You can add any superfood you like. Things like maca for hormone balance, gojis for your skin, matcha or cacao for antioxidants and energy, spirulina or chlorella for protein and detoxifying minerals, bee pollen for protein and the immune system, and even a hypo-allergenic protein powder, to name a few.


Berry Mint Smoothie

  1. 1 banana
  2. 1 cup mixed berries
  3. 1 large handful greens
  4. 5-6 mint leaves
  5. 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  6. 1-2 cups water
Optional superfood
  1. 1 tbsp raw cacao
  1. Blend and enjoy!
